Fumonisins are toxins that Fusarium fungi produce on cereal crops, maize above all. The EU sets maximum levels for them in Regulation (EU) 2023/915.
26 notifications since 1 January 2020 named fumonisins, under 1% of all EU notifications in that time. 2 in the 365 days to 8 November 2026, against 5 in the 365 days before, down 60%. 12% were border rejections and 62% had a serious risk decision.
The origins named most often were Italy (8), Peru (4) and Belgium (2). The product categories named most often were cereals and bakery products (25) and compound feeds (1). The products named most often were flour (16), maize (8) and biscuits (1).
