Worked example with made up numbers

Say a provider offers 302.58 rupees per EUR and charges a fee of EUR 3.00, taken from the 500 EUR you pay. EUR 497.00 is converted, so PKR 150,382 reaches Pakistan. At today's mid market rate of 308.7519, your 500 EUR is worth PKR 154,376. The difference, PKR 3,994, or 2.59%, is the full cost of this transfer: PKR 926 from the fee and PKR 3,067 from a rate 2.00% below mid market. These numbers are an example, not a real quote.

Questions

Europe to Pakistan, answered

What is the euro to rupee rate today?

On 8 November 2026 the mid market rate was 308.75 Pakistani rupees for one euro (EUR). This is ExchangeRate API's daily indicative midpoint rate. Banks and transfer services usually give a lower rate and keep the difference.

How much is 500 euros in Pakistani rupees today?

At the mid market rate of 308.75 on 8 November 2026, 500 EUR is worth PKR 154,376. The amount that actually arrives depends on the provider's fee and exchange rate and will usually be lower.

What is the cheapest way to send money from Europe to Pakistan?

No provider is cheapest every day. Ask each one how many rupees will arrive for the same amount after all fees, and compare that number with the mid market value. The quote with the smallest gap is the cheapest transfer that day.

Why is the rate I am offered lower than this one?

The mid market rate is a midpoint between buying and selling prices, not a retail price. Providers usually sell you rupees at a rate below it and keep the difference as their margin, often on top of a fee. The margin is part of the cost even when the fee is zero.

Does the person in Pakistan pay a fee to receive it?

Not for qualifying transfers of USD 200 or more, which is about 179.16 EUR on 8 November 2026. State Bank of Pakistan rules tell banks in Pakistan to keep these home remittances free of fees and charges for the sender and the receiver. The rules cover fees, not the exchange rate.

Is money sent home taxed in Pakistan?

Section 111(4) of the Income Tax Ordinance keeps up to five million rupees a tax year of foreign remittances, sent through normal banking channels and encashed by a Pakistani bank, outside the rules on unexplained income, if a bank certificate is produced. Exchange companies and money transfer operators count as banking channels.
