Yes, and Rootly reads how you used it. Since February 2026 Rootly's take home tells candidates AI use is expected and strongly encouraged, and asks them to put their AI session transcripts in the repository alongside the code and a short video. It is the only company we found that asks for transcripts.
- AI in interviews
- Expected Expected, with transcripts submitted
- Where
- The take home: a small Rails app with a Slack bot and a web interface for managing incidents.
- What is graded
- Reviewers read transcripts for problem decomposition, course correction, domain understanding and iteration quality. AI fluency is a new dimension with high weight; code correctness is table stakes.
- Basis
- In the company's own words
What else is known?
The deliverables are a private GitHub repository with a clear README, the AI transcripts, and a video walkthrough under five minutes covering the demo, the key code and the tradeoffs.
Rootly's CTO, Quentin Rousseau, describes two submissions with nearly identical code. The transcripts separated them: one candidate worked in phases, asked targeted questions and caught the AI's mistake in webhook retry handling; the other pasted the whole spec into one prompt and kept asking the AI to fix it until things worked.
Rootly publishes the dimensions but not a scored rubric or any data on how consistently its reviewers agree.
