Does Meta allow AI in coding interviews?
Yes, but only in one round. Since October 2025, according to Hello Interview, one of the two onsite coding interviews for software engineers and engineering managers up to E7 and M2 is AI enabled, with an assistant in a chat panel beside the editor. The other coding round stays classic, with no AI. Meta has published no public guide to the format.
What is Meta's AI enabled coding round like?
It is a 60 minute onsite round in a three panel CoderPad: project files on the left, the editor in the middle and an AI chat on the right. You get one multi file problem in three phases: fix a bug, build the core feature, then make it hold up on bigger inputs. According to Hello Interview, the AI can read the project but cannot edit it.
Can you use AI in a Google interview?
Usually not. The exception is a pilot reported in May 2026: from the second half of 2026, junior and mid level candidates on select US teams get a code comprehension round in which they use Gemini, Google's approved assistant, to read, debug and optimise existing code. Elsewhere Google has moved part of its loop back in person, which rules out hidden help.
Does Amazon allow AI tools in interviews?
No, unless you are told otherwise. Internal guidance reported by Business Insider in early 2025 tells candidates not to use generative AI tools during interviews unless explicitly permitted, and warns that breaking the rule may lead to disqualification. Recruiters are told to watch for typing during questions, answers that sound read aloud and eyes that wander off screen.
Is using AI on a take home assignment cheating?
It is cheating when the employer has said not to, and many never say. Anthropic bans AI on take homes unless it states otherwise; Rootly and Speak expect it. A field guide to 51 AI engineering hiring processes found that most take homes state no AI policy at all. When the brief is silent, ask in writing, and disclose what you used.
Which companies allow AI in technical interviews in 2026?
A small set of named companies allow or expect it: Canva, Meta in one onsite round, Shopify, Rippling as an option, Rootly, Speak, Superhuman, Tolan, Zapier and a Google pilot. Others ban it by default, including Amazon, Anthropic, Deloitte UK and Cursor's first screen. Big tech changed least: none of 52 interviewers surveyed there in 2025 said algorithm questions were dropped.
How do interviewers grade AI use in a coding interview?
Mostly on the same things as before, with verification watched more closely. Meta reportedly keeps its four competencies: problem solving, code quality, verification and communication. Canva looks for judgment in steering the AI and fixing its mistakes. Rootly reads transcripts for decomposition, course correction, domain understanding and iteration. No company we found publishes a scored rubric.
Should you submit your AI chat transcript with a take home?
Submit it when the employer asks, as Rootly does, and offer it when AI use is allowed but the brief is silent. Rootly says transcripts separated two candidates whose code was nearly identical. Before you send one, read it: tools such as Claude Code store file contents and command output in plain text, so remove secrets and anything that is not part of the take home.
How do you prepare for an AI allowed coding interview?
Practise on realistic, unfamiliar code under a timer, with the kind of tool you will be allowed, and review how you worked afterwards. Interviewers who allow AI still grade problem solving, verification and communication, so rehearse planning before prompting, giving the AI the facts it cannot guess, running tests after each change, and saying why you chose one design over another.
Can interviewers tell if you used AI?
Often not by watching alone. In an interviewing.io experiment with 32 analysed interviews, no interviewer raised a concern about cheating although every candidate was secretly using ChatGPT. Employers rely instead on question design, follow up questions, screen sharing and in person rounds. Hidden use is a minority habit: about one in five people admit to it in self reported surveys.
What is vibe coding, and do employers want it?
Vibe coding means building software with an AI model without reviewing the code it writes. That is Simon Willison's definition of the term Andrej Karpathy coined in February 2025. Employers who allow AI in interviews screen for the opposite: reading, testing and owning AI written code. Most developers say vibe coding is not part of their professional work.
Where are Claude Code, Codex and Cursor transcripts stored?
Claude Code writes each session to , one JSON object per line, and by default deletes files older than 30 days. Codex CLI keeps its local state, including session transcripts, under . Cursor writes agent transcripts as JSONL files which, according to a reply on its forum, leave out tool outputs.
