Norovirus is a virus. The Commission's network guidance gives norovirus in live oysters, found by a PCR test, as its example of a potentially serious risk.
294 notifications since 1 January 2020 named norovirus, under 1% of all EU notifications in that time. 34 in the 365 days to 8 November 2026, against 45 in the 365 days before, down 24%. 0% were border rejections and 40% had a serious risk decision.
The origins named most often were France (147), the Netherlands (44) and Italy (21). The product categories named most often were bivalve molluscs (254), fruit and vegetables (33) and crustaceans (3). The products named most often were oysters (195), clams (34) and mussels (9).
